John Harrington Burns was born on one of the hottest days recorded for the month of July at the family home in Orange, New Jersey. He grew up in the neighboring town of West Orange, and attended West Orange High School. He enlisted in the US Navy during WW2 and served aboard the wooden hulled ship USS Medrick AMc 203, searching the Pacific for derelict mines. After the war he toured as the lead singer of the famous ‘Four Jacks and Jill’ appearing with such notables as Rosemary Clooney, Sammy Davis, Jr. and Johnny Ray. He appeared on many early TV programs including The Late Night Show on NBC. His short story “Memoirs of a Cleavage Stuffer” tells of his experiences of early ‘Live TV’. Because of his experiences in the world of ‘Show Biz’ he was hired by IBM as a program director to plan company parties and functions. Upon his retirement from IBM he turned to his talent of story telling. His first book of story telling, Hidden Treasures was published by Crystal Dreams to critical acclaim. "...a magnificent roaring piece of work…a roller coaster of anticipatory emotion. The reader knows something dreadful is going to happen…slowly the background rage builds and then the murder. It was really beautiful." Bruce Chadwick, New York Daily News. First Bite, a second book of stories, followed with more accolades. He is currently working on Up From Jerusalem Street the story of the journey out of the Great Depression in to the Second World War. His children’s storybook Little Lenny Night Light is on a DVD as well as published as a coloring book. He and his wife Mary reside in Meridian, Idaho close to their three children and two grandchildren, where he spins his yarns in a column for the Valley Times newspaper. | Media Kit None available at the present time.
